Destiny Media Launches Canada's First Legal Online Commercial Music Service
Vancouver, BC – September 14, 2006 – After establishing MPE security technology as the industry standard for digitally delivering new music releases over the Internet to radio broadcasters (http://www.promoonlympe.com), Destiny Media Technologies and partner Promo Only, today launched Canada’s first online commercial music service, Promo Only Digital Download Service (www.podds.ca).
This is the first and only commercial online music service to be approved by the Canadian Audio-Video Licensing Agency (AVLA), which represents virtually every Canadian record label including Universal Music Canada, Warner Music Canada and EMI Music Canada. PODDS will include rare remixes, extended mixes and other hard-to-find content from major and independent labels that is often required for commercial and industry professionals.
The online music service will be targeted towards disc jockeys and other commercial establishments. In the past it was not legal for disc jockeys and commercial establishments to rip a CD onto a computer and use it for public performance, or use a consumer download service to obtain music for use in public performance. PODDS will offer the first legal option to download individual songs for professional and commercial use.
Priced in packages competitive to similar consumer services, PODDS’ users will be able to download tracks securely via the PODDS Player using MPE technology. Customers can use their legally purchased downloads on popular DJ playback software, including BPM Studios and others soon to be announced. Users will also be able to make burned copies of their purchased music and create custom compilations of the downloaded tracks.
“Though other music download services are available, they aren’t legal for commercial users,” said Jim Robinson, CEO of Promo Only. “Promo Only is the first to offer the ONLY legal music download service in Canada for disc jockeys and commercial users. Once again we are pioneering another avenue for our customers to gain immediate access to the music they need,”
“Promo Only continues to push barriers and shape the way music is distributed in North America,” added Dean Ernst, Canadian President of Promo Only. “By creating legitimate and legal ways to deliver content, we are helping to evolve the Canadian music industry. We are listening to our customers and providing them with more choices and the ability to obtain the music they want, when they want it.”
“User access is through a player application powered by our MPE security. This system was designed with the end-user in mind,” comments Destiny CEO, Steve Vestergaard. “Extensive hyperlinks make it easy to find content, a download manager handles purchases in the background and CD’s can be burned directly from an integrated player by simply dragging and dropping songs into a playlist.”
